Vibrating Higher
Vibrating higher is my favorite step. There are a few layers to this as you are on your path to healing. You will know healing has started to take place when you are able to vibrate higherâwhen situations happen and you are unbothered. It doesnât mean they donât bother you at all anymore, because no one likes to be disrespected, but you now know that there are ways you can take back your agency. When you vibrate higher, you will start to ask yourself questions like: Is this the environment that I should be staying in? Is this personâs ignorance worth a response? Am I going to let this racial incident take me out of my healing game?
When you vibrate higher, you begin to realize that you donât have to deal with the dumb sh*t anymore and you can start getting your résumé, website, or CV updated. Or perhaps you just walk away from the situation and leave that person trying to figure out why you are no longer engaging with them. When you are vibrating higher, you canât stay too much longer in a toxic environment or entertain certain colleagues, because you are too blessed to stay stressed with these foolish folks.
One example of how I knew I was able to vibrate higher was with a former colleague Iâll call Penny. I had worked with Penny for years, and I would say to some degree I knew her fairly well. We didnât hang out outside of work, but we would sometimes grab lunch together or she would catch me up on what her family was up to. Penny would always say some borderline racist stuff, but I just didnât have the energy to always address it. Have you ever been there? In those early days, I was still processing my pain and finding the agency to address that pain.
At one point, Penny told me about her excitement about a family member getting into a fancy college. Well, she was excited except for one thing. Her relative was housing with other students who happened to be Black. And if you hadnât guessed, Penny was white. She went on to tell me a version of her story about how the Black students were being mean to her relative, and she felt like they didnât have proper home training. These students, including Pennyâs relative, all made it into the same fancy school, so I would imagine they probably had more in common than Penny would like to believe.
I tried my best to be present during the conversation, because at first I thought to myself, These are just young students who donât know each other experiencing some dorm-room growing pains. I had some growing pains with my roommate when I moved into my dorm room. Eventually, you settle in, get to know each other, and at least find some mutual respect in a shared space. I wanted to give Penny the benefit of the doubt, but the more she spoke, the more
